Where was this book when I was a kid? Donut is born into a family of villains and is expected to follow in her family's footsteps. Her best friend, Ivy, is even a villain-in-training. However, Donut dreams of being a hero and will do anything it takes to be the good guy/gal. Through these pages, she overcomes obstacles and steadily tries to break the stigma everyone else has of her family by doing good deeds and being kind. I absolutely loved this graphic novel about going after your dreams, despite what your friends or family may say. Hoping for a sequel!

Middle grade superhero graphic novel. Donut the Destroyer was born to two villains but has decided to enroll in hero school. Best friend Ivy is disappointed they won't be villains together, and tries to sabotage Donut's chance of success at hero school. Donut makes new friends-- Artie and Martha, who welcome Donut into their secret super-friends HQ where they sew, play board games, and climb the tree house ladder clad in pillow suits for safety. As Donut tries to gain acceptance at the new school, Ivy's plans grow in scope until they start to endanger all of the students. A fun story about claiming your own path, even when different from what's expected of you. I would love to read more about Donut, the super-friends, and Ivy so I'm hoping this is the first in a series.

Sarah Graley is, as always, on top form with Donut the Destroyer. The story of a young hero trying to break away from a family history of supervillainy, this book follows Donut through the first month of Hero school; making new friends, confronting old ones and trying to juggle a reputation that preceded them.

The book touches on themes around friendship, fitting in and being true to yourself no matter what with a hint towards there being a lot more to life than heroism and villainy. Not everything is quite so simple.

Great fun and great art; this is an excellent graphic novel and I look forward to reading (& seeing) more of Donut in the future! I only wish it had covered more time but I know there's constraints on the format when it comes to length.

Very cute! A story about difficult and changing friendships, and growing with parents who are different from you, but still love you. It's kind of a superhero story focused on emotions and growth rather than superheroing, which is very sweet.
