I can imagine that boomers "dig it," but it's otherwise of no discernable cultural value. The parts that aren't completely pointless ramblings tend to be about some asshole watching terrible things happen to people, with the narrato 's commentary consisting of "Man, he/she was *wild*, can you dig!"

I understand it’s a product of its time and should be treated as such, but it was truly a slog to get through at times.

Keroaucs romantic descriptions of roadside beauty and spirituality really struck me in a special way. Sal's fascination of and love-hate-relationship with Dean may be one of the best depictions of friendship between men ever depicted.
Beware though, this is an old book with bewildering moral ethics.
