Another masterpiece by Dembski-Bowden ! We follow members of the Grey Knights chapter, as they clash with the Space Wolves and destroy various demonic threats. Character development is great, actions scenes are not repetitive and dialogue is well crafted. What could've been just another bolter porn books reveals itself to be a genuinely good book !

Having studies basic principals of writings and narratives across cultures its not often j come across a book where I find myself wanting nothing to have changed.

The Emporer's Gift is a great standalone novel or introduction to the geimdarkness that is the 41st millenia. I particularly loved the closing scene and it brought a tear to my eye.

I loved this book. I liked the solid gothic feel of the setting. I liked the majesty of the knights. The action scenes were exciting and I cared for all the characters. The whole book kept me immersed and the storyline was compelling.

Perhaps the only thing I would want would be a bit of a stronger plot. The story was a bit of a meander, but not enough to make me break free at any point.

Dembski-Bowden is rapidly becoming my favorite WH40K author, with his easy, flowing style and ability to solidify a great story with strong, identifiable characters. This was my first exposure to the Grey Knights, a secret Legion of Adeptus Astartes that has dedicated their lives to rooting out the Neverborn (Chaos) and basically exterminating it. The added element of psyker abilities and the fact that their existence must be kept secret from humans made this a great surprise. Told from the first person view of Hyperion, a young Grey Knight who is part of the Castian group, this story combines the Grey Knights under the instruction of the Inquisition, the battle of Armageddon with the Neverborn, and to make the story really interesting, the Space Wolves Astartes trying to protect humans from extermination by the Inquisition because of their knowledge of the Grey Knights and the forces of Chaos. I was very impressed how the author pulled all this together into a tightly woven tale, full of tension, intrigue, and a lot of emotion as well.
