This short story format anthology was purely a shot by shot retelling of Clone Wars episodes. While I was expecting the familiar plot of the show, I also expected more details about the characters lives, especially unexplored characters such as Rex and Ventress. With little nuance or new canon material, I found myself reading this book just to finish it rather than enjoying the stories within.

If you have watched The Clone Wars, you will adore this little anthology.

Structured like a kids' bedtime story book with the same story intensity of the show, Stories of Light and Dark offer 10 stories that relate to arcs in the show. As someone who prefers to read Star Wars than watch it, this was perfect. It covered stories that I believe are some of the best, with the Umbara arc in particular. The final, eleventh story, "Bug", is an all original story that expands the understanding of The Clone Wars and thus expanded my enjoyment of the era, show, and book itself.

One of course can not ignore the cover of this book. It is absolutely gorgeous, along with the images that come before each of the stories. Although intended for middle grade and below, I still enjoyed this lovely anthology and will keep it for my future kids.

This was good - I’m a Clone Wars fan and this nicely revisited it. However, this isn’t like the “From a certain point of view” anthologies, which are new stories adjacent to the movies. And it isn’t like “Tales of Light and Dark,” which are totally new stories with some new and some characters. Here we have basically retelling of selected episodes from Clone Wars. It doesn’t all fit together like “Dark Disciple” did.
I had hoped for a bit more. The last chapter was excellent - definitely a standout.

Meh. I'd rather just watch The Clone Wars episodes.

The Obi Wan and Nightsister “Bug” stories were gems out of generic retellings of Clone Wars episodes.

As usual, anything set within my favorite Star Wars era is going to get a bump in ratings just because I generally like being back in that time frame of SW. These stories are all based on episodes of the Clone Wars, but told from another character's POV...so essentially, From a Certain Point of View: Clone Wars edition.

I don't feel like some of these stories add much, but they are fun and enjoyable. A few standouts that did feel like they added more depth to the story and characters: The Shadow of Umbara (Captain Rex), The Lost Nightsister (Ventress), and Dark Vengeance (Maul). Stories that didn't do much for me: Bug, Almost a Jedi, and Sharing the Same Face. I also almost skipped a story entirely because I couldn't stand the voice effect they used for Cad Bane. His voice is fine in the show, but listening to a whole story narrated by him? Was not pleasant.

This is fine. Some of the stories like the Maul story, Kenobi story and Youngling story were standouts but for the most part it was just a rehash of the episodes with very little extra flair. Great for clone wars fans or for fans without enough time to watch the whole series to get a taste of the show without watching. However it is not anything outstanding.
