I loved the first one and I was so pleasantly surprised by how much I loved it that I didn’t think I would love the second one as much. Don’t panic- I did!
Somehow the story got better, the twists and turns got twistier and turnier and I was hooked (evidently as I devoured half of it on day 1!) I love a book where they get straight into the plot and keep you gripped from the very first to the very last page. At no point was I bored, or thinking this was getting silly (ok there were a couple of moments but I didn’t think that as much during this book nor did I dwell on that thought) or wanting to reach the end because I’d had enough. I wanted to reach the end because I was desperate to know what the hell was going on.
I think what I liked about this book was that it felt a bit more realistic than the first one. Sure, some of the evidence was convenient and sure, would the police not start to look into a disappearance after the 72 hour mark? However as this was one was a ‘current’ case as opposed to a cold case, it did feel more believable that more people would be willing to help and that more people might have some evidence because they wanted to return a young man to his family.
I didn’t guess the ending (no spoilers from me), I had no idea at all about any of it until I was reading it and I love that. I love that I was still in the dark and guessing right until the answers were there for me.
This was so well written and I love the mix of written words and pictures, to really help the reader visualise the case. The mix of the audio transcripts as well as the uploading of the case really got me into the spirit of believing this was being dropped at the time of reading. I had a lot more patience for Pip in this one and I didn’t find myself being annoyed by the things she did. Again, I think it was because of the type of case it was that I could be a bit more lenient with some of the wild as hell stuff she gets up to. I loved all of the returning characters and it was nice to see some step up in this book after being minor ones in the first book.
I’m thrilled this lived up to the first one, and I can’t wait to reread it to see if I pick up on all the things I missed!

"I think we all get to decide what good and bad and right and wrong mean to us, not what we're told to accept."
This series has a hold on me. Just like the first book of the series, "Good Girl, Bad Blood" was a good read, one I absolutely tore through. I had my reservations going into this book, being all too aware of the curse that seems to plague the middle book of YA trilogies, but it was nowhere in sight.
Holly Jackson continues to hold me hostage with her intriguing and compelling plot lines, her twists are always unexpected. Somehow, to my surprise, this became even darker than AGGGTM, although that was more driven by Pip who grappled with the consequences of the events of the last book and the pitfalls of a frustrating justice system. The only downside was the last 100 or so pages that felt too rushed.
