it amazes me how this plot was thought out. i read agggtm in january i think and it didn’t do well for my expectations. this however, i didn’t really think too much when i began reading but it was definitely a thrilling one. the last couple of pages were insane. and i mean INSANE. when the writing is good it’s really good. it just so poetic and stands so much more rather than the other parts. i really liked the actual real photos that holly jackson included. liked this one better than the first. 4/5

solid book and mystery with nice characters i wouldve liked more development with the newer characters but i loved the stanley forbes development he was a great character.
I'm a little torn about this one. The first two thirds or so had me HOOKED. I wanted to know what this catfish was looking for (my guess was security questions lol), I wanted to know what linked all these men, I wanted Jamie to be okay!
And I got answers! And Jamie WAS okay! But...the last quarter reveal of a decades old murder case that involved a kid who helped his dad murder children just came out of nowhere. Stanley being "Child Brunswick" was a twist but also I barely understood what Child Brunswick was. The neighbor guy (whose involvement should've been obvious to Pip as soon as the word "Scranton" was said) being the brother of one of the murdered girls and using "Layla's" insta to identify Child Brunswick was again, a twist. But, like, how was this case not mentioned anywhere else? Pip could've EASILY alluded to it. I would think I had just missed it but other people have asked the same question.
Pip going into shock after Stanley was killed in front of her was a good ending. But also, do I like this complete breakdown over a guy who not only was vile and racist in the first book but also revealed to be a murder accomplice? Not really. He seemed like an odd choice for a redemption arc...
All that being said: the majority of the book was great! I had to know what happened next! No more dogs died! ALSO I was genuinely not breathing as they waited to hear if the body was Jamie's. Like, I let out a gasp/sob while in my car. So it's safe to say I was invested.
I can't wait to finish out the series I just wish I liked the ending of this better. 3.5 rounded up.
EDIT: After reading book 3, this is a 3 star. No rounding up. It's firmly in the middle of the series both chronologically and rating-wise
