Take Treasure Island and set it in china, make the main character a strong teen who just wants to be her own person already, and add a famous Chinese pirate and you have a fun read! I love classic retellings. I don't love historical fiction, but this one mostly kept my attention (I zoned out quite a few times and had to rewind, but that's more of a me problem than the book's).

2.5 stars. It was nice to read, but too focused on the romance and not enough on the plot for my taste, and the ending seemed rushed and felt like a soap opera to me. I would have loved it in my teen years, with a lovely wlm love story, but it just seemed a little too childish for me now. If it’s something you like to read tho it will be perfect for you.
