I have been a devoted Kalynn Bayron fan since her debut novel back in 2020, and when I saw that she would be writing the next book in the Remixed Classics series I freaked out! While I am not super familiar with the original story of Jekyll and Hyde, beyond the representations of it in popular media, I knew that I was going to need to get my hands on a copy! I was delighted by the creepy world building in My Dear Henry, and I was especially taken with the narrative voice of the story.
I will say, this book is not for readers who are squeamish about things like corpses and medical experiments. In keeping with the original story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, this book delves into the world of mad science, and can be intense at times. If you are a reader who is not sensitive to these sorts of things, this book would be a great choice!
My Recommendation-
If you enjoy dark reimaginings of classic spooky tales, you should grab a copy of My Dear Henry! I would especially recommend this book to readers who are feeling the Halloween spirit even now, in March!

I'm in love with these Remixed Classics. They all have the same flavor of their source material, but use the bones of the original as a vehicle for new perspectives and messaging.
I've yet to read anything by Kalynn Bayron that I dislike, and this was no exception. However, even with a happy ending, the contents are dark and brooding and sad. I would recommend this to someone who likes Gothic horror/mystery.

Ok, first off I would like to say that I think this is one of my favorite books that I have read by Kalynn Bayron. I love her others, but this one just really connected with me. This was also the second retelling that I read in this retold classics series .
This retelling was very dark and told in a time period where being not only LGBTQ+ was considered wrong, but also the color of both the main protagonists skin. Using both of those factors worked well in telling the story and the why the Jekyll/Hyde character was subject to what they were in the story.
I honestly never thought a love between this story would be as intense as it was. I was hooked from the very beginning.
The narrator did an outstanding job of encompassing the characters, and their tone and delivery was chefs kiss. I would absolutely read future works read by them, and I will absolutely be reading the next retold classic in this series.
