This book had me quaking at the end. Loved the characters and loved the story. My only gripes were that the ending felt rushed and the main character clingy behavior annoyed me but the story flushed out in such a way that you can empathize and sympathize with Gabriel. Great story.

I think as far as reimaginings go, this was a good read. I like how the author took parts of the original story that were familiar and gave them new life. it was really fun to be able to point out specific scenes, dialogues, and characters that are present in the original story!
The biggest failing of this book, though, is the characters and their relationships. another review said the romance feels very insta-lovey, and I unfortunately have to agree. We get no time with Henry, let alone Henry and Gabriel as a couple, so it's really hard to be invested in them and their well-being. Henry is barely even a character for most of the novel, just this idea that Gabriel is obsessed with. We don't even know WHY Gabriel likes him so much, why they're attracted to each other. I think the author could've spent a lot more time developing that relationship and fleshing it out.

Had fun with this one. But some of the lines took me out especially the "If he was Hyde, I shall be Seek". I know that was a line from the original novel, but it's still not a good one. I love reading about the Victorian era and it's awesome to read about the more diverse history of Victorian England.
The romance was cute, but I wish it was more developed. But the dark academia vibes was scratching my academia core itch.

Love the gay love! And it’s a great audio if you’re trying to fall asleep but that’s about it for me…. I think the time period is too unfamiliar and lacks racial equalities and things that I find I must have in any story I read. Therefore I couldn’t finish this, even though the narrator’s voice was nice and soothing.
