I picked this up to finish the series.
“We‘ll Always Have Summer” jumps ahead two years and follows Belly and Conrad. Belly and Jeremiah have been mostly happy together for two years now, and they even attend the same college. Unfortunately, Jeremiah makes a huge mistake and now Belly must decide if their relationship is worth saving, all while navigating her maybe not dormant feelings for Conrad.
Of all the books, this one made Belly feel the most immature to me. Belly finds out that Jeremiah cheated on her (kind of a Ross and Rachel situation) and when she confronts him about it, he proposes to her. So, naturally, with all of her doubts and concerns about their future, and being in college, she says yes. This causes a huge rift in their families because everyone thinks they are way too young to get married.
Marriage is such a special and sacred act between two people and I really hate when characters take it so lightly. It is a lifelong commitment and not a plot point to end an argument. The fact that Jeremiah proposed because it came out that HE cheated shows that he is not ready to be married, he just does not want to lose Belly to his mistake.
We do get Conrad’s perspective in this novel, which was a fun surprise. It was definitely a lot more fun being in Conrad’s head because he is a much more closed off person, so it was helpful as a reader to be able to get inside his mind.
Belly still feels a pull towards Conrad and I was screaming at her to just own it and be with him. But the climax occurs on her wedding day, which was atrocious timing.
Overall, I really enjoyed this series and I REALLY loved how it ultimately ended, however this was my least favorite novel. How the characters got to their end was not how I wanted things to go for them.

“I need you to know that no matter what happens, it was worth it to me. Being with you, loving you. It was all worth it.”
—Conrad Fisher, page 276

the euphoric highs and inescapable lows of reading this was so mind-boggling. high: conrad povs (imagine me pounding my fist into a wall). low: jeremiah acting like a manchild (now imagine me with a deep frown on my face). another high: peaches/domestic bellyconrad/wound care. another low: belly telling everyone and herself over and over again that she’s choosing jeremiah.

okay, so i love belly. i love conrad. [pointed silence] the last fourth of the book made me insane in both good and bad ways. especially the night before the wedding . . . i was so fucking aggravated like you cannot even believe. anyway, this is short because i shan’t think about that too long. have fun and know that i only had enough will in me to write this after watching jenny han-directed conrad pov episode (you changed me forever s3ep05). happy birthday to me fr
