This book I actually got as a sample from one of the many printers I contacted for [b:A Ruin of Shadows|39711250|A Ruin of Shadows|L.D. Lewis|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1522774391l/39711250._SX50_.jpg|61368384], and was one that I thought was interesting enough to put on my TBR pile. It was a good choice for a design sample, with a matte black cover and pretty red endpapers.

I worried when I saw it had no reviews on goodreads, but then I liked it quite well. There were places where I felt the poems were needlessly inscrutable, but I liked the nature and gardening imagery, especially in "You Buried Me Under the Fruit Trees," and "Dr. Pamela Isley Prepares an Offering." Of course I appreciated all the language of science sprinkled throughout as well -- the torque and spray, the symbiotes, the subcutaneous.

Sometimes uneven, but lovely overall.
