This book is sloppy, undisciplined, full of terrible dad jokes. I liked it a lot.

This book needed to be written, just as -- many years ago -- Bored of the Rings needed to be written.

Our heroes keep getting overmatched and getting away with it. Of course they do! After about 50 pages you knew they would.

Moog is a comic wizard the likes of which we haven't seen since Jack Vance's work.
I liked the revenant, more for his attitude than anything.

Near the end, Ganelon takes on an enormous Infernal; this is where I had to decide how to view this book. Spoiler warning
Spoiler He waits for his opponent to swing then runs up his sword blade.
. I stopped reading. I thought, "In a book full of ridiculous things, this is the most .." but then the voice on my other shoulder said, "Of course it is. This is the climax of the action. What COULD it be except more ridiculous than anything else?" That's when I decided to chuckle and go with the flow.

Under all the hilarity there's a quite plausible plot, and I can't even fault the use of airships for the occasional "Just When It Seemed That All Was Lost" moment.

Go read an Abercrombie or something else about grim mercenaries. Then come and read this. You'll plotz.
