Another really good one! Again very LOTR and I wish we could have had more strong female characters but overall interesting and I do like this world.

The best of the original trilogy. Unpredictable, good characters and action all the way. Had me hooked from the start.

A few years back I met Terry Brooks at a convention and even got my first edition of Sword of Shannara signed by him. I'd only ever read Sword by then and had no concept of where his entire body of work continued to. I'd always enjoyed Sword to a degree, even if it didn't have lasting power to me, but I'd always known of the entire Shannara range but had simply not gotten to them. I'm just now taking in the further Shannara books and am happy to see a continual improving of the story as each goes by.
The plot of Wishsong is really broken into 2 separate stories, each with its own quest and resolution to work toward. Similar to the previous book, Elfstones, Wishsong also has a 'formulaic' quest structure that revolves around supporting characters protecting the lead character on the journey. But while the main two character in this book are a little bit boring, the supporting characters are where the story really shines. IMO, Slanter and Whisper are two of the best characters yet featured in the Shannara saga.

Ugh, finally finished this! It's not that it was a bad book, exactly. The plot was functional, the characters were fine, the prose was adequate. But it all just added up to blah.
