Bold move by Doyle to have Holmes basically disappear for almost a third of the book and have Watson do all the heavy lifting. Then again it does give Holmes a chance to reappear in the second half and be a real mischievous butt that I kinda admire.

Pretty good book. The only thing I didn’t like is that Holmes doesn’t appear for the majority of the book.

Dr. Mortimer: "It is not my intention to be fulsome, but I confess that I covet your skull."
HA!!!
Perfectly paced, grabbed me into trying to deduce for myself what was happening on the way, I look forward to reading more of the Holmes' stories.
And I really enjoyed "The Whole Story" idea of this version - with photos, illustrations, and little tidbits in the margins to further pull readers into the story and give a greater understanding. Would be good to check out the many others in this series.
