These boys have captured my heart, I live them so much.

I'm happy that I had a chance to see some events from The Wicker King from Jack's perspective: all the fear and confusion but also his growing feelings for August

A nice addition to the story, but I probably shouldn't have read it immediately following.

Okay but why can't you give me more of the afterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

(Also, I feel like maybe the other world Jack saw is not 100% an illusion? Like, I feel like Ancrum kept that door open because how on earth did Jack know of the stone in The Wicker King? And the legend written here is definitely not a 1 to 1 to what had happened in Real Life so that makes me wonder if perhaps the legend WAS true and Jack was tapping into part of the legend, remembered by the world as the last lines tell it, only living them as if they were the characters. I dunno, maybe I'm just crazy af)

“You’re the love of my life, you know,” he said bravely.
August just looked at him and shrugged. “I know”

He knew what August wanted now. What he’d needed all along: allegiance.

A great little companion story, giving some Jack POV and a glimpse into the other world and the story he created there.
