I really wanted to like this cozy read, but it was filled with typos and random interjections from the author about how much she loves books and being a reader (it felt jarring, like I was reading a book blog instead of an actual book). I also felt so sorry for Zoe, just taking everyone's shit and smiling and being grateful about it. I knew the happy ending was coming, but when it did I wasn't very happy about it.

A woman at her wits end with her ex and the child she loves and tries her hardest to support finds a job as a nanny in the dark Scottish house at the end of a long lane. She has to find her place in the house, win the children's trust, and help their father become a family again while supporting her own child who has never spoken a word. This is a complex romance with real consideration for children adapting to their missing mother's hole in their life.

I read my way through this book so fast because it kept itself mostly light and I’m a bit of a softie for a little romance, however the book really didn’t make sense in a lot of parts. At one point the actual author of the book breaks into a large paragraph about herself, the story placed the main character’s mother living in Spain, but she also casually comes around to baby sit her son. Sentences fragmented, overuse of the word ‘absolutely’, trailing thoughts always accompanied by a ‘…’ even though, as I mentioned before, the by the author talking about herself, she reinforced the idea that she was telling the story! It just had so much potential but was let down by the fact that it seemed to have very little editing.

This is a sort of sequel to The Bookshop on the corner, a new love story and starting over story with a Scottish backdrop and some familiar faces from book 1. I got sucked in fairly quickly. Any book that can combine wanderlust, UK accents, book loving and a love story is a good premise for me. This one is also reminiscent of The Sound of Music but a bit grittier. Lots of real life messiness and drama but with a well deserved happy ending.

Most of the time with these books it’s less about the actual books and more about the relationships the character holds. Which is fine, just don’t expect a novel about books because this is not where it’s at.
Loved the main characters way with children in the book and her tenacity to carry on despite obstacles.

Once again, SO surprising. Even when I was expecting to be surprised, it shocked me. Surprisingly goes to pretty dark places ?? Out of nowhere?? I loved Zoe, I loved the Nanny McPhee nature of it- so good. Some 🤨 moments but good overall. Re-read the scene in 500 miles and made me so happy lol

This was really good really really entertaining fun plot I actually wished there was more development on the romance side of things but I enjoyed it I think it would make a good movie or tv show too :)
