I wanted to like this because the beginning started fine but once we get to the introduction of Assistant, that's when it started to go downhill. There were so many red flags, one being the lack of consent and the power dynamic. I couldn't gauge how old Ari was but she read as either someone in her teenage years or just a socially awkward 20-something-year-old. I'm fine with an age-gap relationship most of the time but it came off as being more creepy and toxic. It frustrated me to no end that Ari couldn't see how manipulative Assistant was being. I would've DNF'd but I wanted to see the outcome because I already guessed the plot twist after the Assistant asked for her freedom. The shrivel of hope I had that Ari would just cut off and finally stand up for herself, but only to be disappointed that their conflict is resolved quickly and they fall into bed.
I really tried not to let the fact that this was originally a Devil Wear's Prada fanfic but I think knowing that made it harder to finish. The writing was decent which is where the second start comes into place but the plot was not it for me.
