Coasting

Kick push & coast... My feels are coasting from this book. What an incredible conclusion Jay McLean. You outdid yourself with this. I was elated while reading with each progressive chapter.

didn't like this one as much as the first. maybe it was just the shear amount of drama and i wasn't in the mood for all the trama/crying. I mean it was still a good book, and i did like the ending, but overall not my favorite.

I really connected with this story. I don't know why, I'm not a teen mom, I don't have a history of abuse, and I'm not a high rolling ma'am. But all the characters are relatable, and you wish every single one of them could be apart of your life.

Josh and Beccas story ended the way I wanted it to. I liked that coast was more about the characters and less about steam and sex. It was a lot about healing wounds, learning to accept your past, and deciding to be happy. Fire truck the rest.

I think this most had the most "saved quotes" out of any book I've ever read. I laughed. I cried, but it wasn't such a gut punch sob that I had emotional hangover the next day. It was that happy medium, the story wrapped up, the characters are where you want them to be.

Jay is probably my favorite author. She writes the way I speak in my day to day, which makes her books really enjoyable and easy to follow. I'm so happy I was introduced to this series.

I finished this book with a wow. The writing was just lyrical and really kept me intrigued throughout the whole of the book. the characters are so captivating and the conflict is so well written within the story. I love the whole book.

*Note: This is the second part of a continuous story. You should have read Kick Push prior to reading this book. Spoiler for that first book ahead*

Oh, Josh how I loved you. If not for him I am not sure I would have enjoyed Coast as much as I did. Really he and Tommy won me over in Kick Push so I wanted them to get their happily ever after. I wanted Josh to have everything he ever wanted, everything that would make him happy, even if that means he is with Becca. I didn't really connect with her in the first book and she annoyed me at times in this one, but she is who he wants so I wanted it to work out for him. He is so sweet, and cute, and funny, and wonderful.

When I first started reading I was reading Becca's sections about how she is afraid of Josh, how he did such horrible things to her and stuff, and I was really confused. How she went on about it I kept thinking did I miss something? I remember Josh had a meltdown at one point when all of the stress got to him in Kick Push, but he just destroyed some things and yelled at everyone, then felt really bad about it. It was understandable, but he never went to physically hurt anyone, and even what he yelled at Becca was heartbreaking for me. He was hurt that this girl he fell in love with was just going to leave him and not tell him. I got it then and still get it now, but I kept thinking there had to be something else. Something to make Becca genuinely fear being around Josh, and not just fear the feelings he brings out in her. So I went back and re-read a bit of Kick Push and didn't see anything 'super horrible terrible he is the worst' that happened. I know she has issues from her mom, but she has been going to therapy and trying to work through them. Even writing this after finishing the story I still don't really understand why she was so afraid of him.

So yeah I didn't care much for Becca. She pretty much didn't ever consider Josh and his feelings, what he is going through, and I hated that. I loved him so much I disliked her because I just wanted him to be happy. He hasn't been able to move on with his life, hasn't been able to move on with anyone else, and he is just going through the motions. He goes back to his hotel room every night sad and alone and missing Becca. He blames himself for breaking her, breaking them, but he really didn't. Even without his meltdown things wouldn't have been super happily ever after because she was already broken. Something would have happened to tear them apart because she needed to work on herself before trying to be with someone like that. Now he still hasn't been able to move on, he still loves her, still wants to be with her, but she is too afraid to. I know she is broken but gah!

The first part of the story was just me yelling at Becca for being so afraid of Josh. For being so cruel even if she doesn't mean to be. For not being strong enough to see that he is one of the sweetest guys ever. Then things start getting better. Josh and Becca slowly start to heal what was broken. And then it was kind of sweet. Seriously Josh is amazing and I loved the slow coming together again of these two characters. After all she has been through and all she feels there is no way they could have just instantly jumped into everything full on. So it was nice. And I was happy. Josh was happy, Tommy was happy (and super cute!) and so it was all good. I'm glad Josh was able to get everything he wanted even if the journey annoyed me at times. This was still a great read.

*DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW OR THIS BOOK IF YOU HAVE NOT READ KICK, PUSH*

**IF YOU HAVEN'T READ KICK, PUSH WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?!?**

I have been not so anxiously waiting for this book for, what seems like, forever. I remember when I got to like 90% of Kick, Push and realized that there was no way there was going to be a HEA, I was gutted. I specifically remember my husband and children looking at me like I was crazy because I was crying so much. Josh both broke and won my heart and I NEEDED to see him get his HEA which could only mean getting HIS Becca.

Coast picks up a year after Becca and Josh last saw each other and their reunion isn't exactly a happy one. They have been living very separate lives and I don't think either of them were prepared to see just how much things had changed.

This is where I have to step up and admit that I was not a fan of the first 23% of the book. I understand that it was meant to be a necessary step in Becca's healing but I feel like the same results could have come in a totally different way. Perhaps the best part of that 23% was seeing how Becca and her dad have established a good relationship and how he is helping her move forward.

The 77% that followed that rough patch took place over a couple of years and it was brilliant. So much so that I forgot all about being pissed off. It was heartbreaking but beautiful. Seeing Josh and Becca reconnect at a slow and steady pace was both torture and everything I could ever hope for.
Josh Warden will forever be a top 5 book boyfriend for me. I love that through everything he and Becca were going through he never faltered in his loyalty and love for her. He ALWAYS put her happiness first but NEVER pretended that he didn't hope for more. His feelings were always out in the open but he still gave her the space she needed to heal.

I fell in love with him in Kick, Push because of the way that he loved Tommy with everything that he was and how much he hated when anyone referred to him as a mistake. I wish that I was half the mother to my kids that Josh is a dad to Tommy. In Coast you get to see Tommy grow in front of your very eyes and what a great little man he's growing into. He was adorable and hilarious "like last time" but he also provided some of the most heartfelt scenes in the whole book. I think that a book about Tommy when he's older needs to happen for sure.

While this book is mostly about Becca's journey and healing, you'll see growth in each of the secondary characters as well as the decline of another. It's both heartbreaking and heartwarming and I suggest you have tissues on hand to make it through. Becca and Josh's story is a rough one to get through but the way that Jay McLean finishes was perfection and it left me completely satisfied. This series is one that I will be coming back to often.

Damn.... I don’t know how I’ve gone so long without Jay’s writing in my life, BUT I AM ALL THE WAY HERE FOR IT NOW!!

Nothing I say in this review will do justice to how amazingly talented this author is, and how beautifully heartbreaking Bec’s and Josh’s story is. Just do yourself a favor and read it. Savor every moment because I promise you, when it’s over you’ll wish it never ended.

Jay, you’ve officially created a forever fan in me!
