Things I didn’t see coming: wild and unnecessary use of the r word, multiple descriptions of animal death.

This book had me up until 3/4 of the way. The ending did make me go wtf but not in a pleasing way. It’s too long and slow for me to have been pysched for the ending(I actually felt relieved that it was done.) Louise annoyed me and of course none of them are reliable so believing any of them is  far fetched. I recommend the audio if you want to get through this at a faster pace.

Really wanted to give this a higher rating because I was really enjoying it until about maybe 3/4 through, but the ending and the very final "twist" just weren't it for me.

I had kind of suspected something like what happened might be going on kind of mid-way through, but I was thinking
that David and Rob had switched bodies
Not that I had any idea what that really meant for the story, it was just something that came to mind.  I had no idea of who really had done it.

All of the
out of body experience
kind of took me out of the story.  It pushed everything over into the realm of sci-fi/fantasy just enough that I wasn't super into it.  I know that some people can lucid dream, but it takes a lot of work to get good at it, and the
out of body stuff
was an even bigger reach.

Very disappointed in the ending
I was not happy to see the antagonist not only come out on top but also kill our protagonist?? I know suspense/thriller types don't always have a true "happy" ending but this was just too much for me.  After everything Louise had gone through, it was just very disappointing and unsatisfying, and I hate that it was all kind of up in the air about what will happen to her child and family.   Also I don't know exactly what it was but there was just something mildly homophobic about Rob being in love with David and thinking the only solution was to steal a woman's (Adele) body to be with him.  I mean clearly Rob ended up having some issues but they were just never hinted at or investigated enough for me to believe that he would immediately think that what he did was the only solution.

I don't really know what I was expecting out of the book.  It was a fine middle of the road story with an awful ending.  I read it because I wasn't sure I wanted to watch the show of it on Netflix.  Probably will not now.

This book kept me guessing until the LAST page. Great psychological thriller.

I was incredibly disappointed by this book…

The beginning was great, I was captured by the story and kept wanting to dive deeper in. There was a lot of fatphobia going on in the first 95% of the book.

But the ending….WTF was that??? The book quite literally could have ended with Adele switching bodies with Louise and that be that. Rob could have remained as a side character and his murder be the reason why Adele would want to switch into Louise’s body- to absolve David of any crime, a fresh start for Adele in Louise’s body and refocus on their relationship.

But no, in the last couple of pages the only gay character (which we don’t find that fact out until the very end) is now the villain??? Who not only killed actual Adele, killed actual Louise but is now also planning on killing Louise’s child?? Wtf? This is feeding into a lot of homophobic tropes that are quite damaging and harmful.

I would not suggest this book and I’m not reading more from this author.

This book was a whirlwind read, enthralling and addictive like the characters that are within, but shocking and completely mind-boggling. After finishing the book I can now attest to the claim on the front cover of the "the most shocking ending you'll read all year". You will definitely deduce what the ending will be, but only from piecing together pieces of the puzzle placed throughout the story, right from the beginning. This is, if you're paying attention.

It was an interesting plot and I enjoyed listening to the audible, but it was just too slow for my liking. There was not a whole lot of excitement or thrills throughout the book
