I found this book at my local thrift store in perfect condition. I grabbed it thinking I got a great deal on a hardback children's book about colors. Then I read it. This story actually tells children to suppress their desires and dreams and blend in with their surroundings. The chameleon decides she wants to do more than blend in and begins changing colors (Which a chameleon by nature can do) and shows other animals in the jungle her ability, receiving compliments.

It isn't until the chameleon is LITERALLY bullied to tears by some bugs that she decides being colorful and standing out isn't worth it.

Then to top it off, it sneaks a message at the end that being colorful alone and in private every once and a while is okay. I'm sorry, what?

I looked at my children and said "This book is wrong and I am sorry I didn't read it before buying it. You can be both." Do not read this book to your kids.
