3-3.5 stars. So the reviews for this book are terrible. And while I admit there are a lot of writing issues that a solid editor should have caught, I want to talk about something else. I had no idea that Bobby Hall is Logic, who I have heard of, but don't really know anything about. I will say this, if you choose to read this, catch the audiobook, which Hall reads himself. I think his voice is what sold the whole book for me. I have a copy of the book, and I can see how reading it would be troublesome due to a need for edits.

The plot, sure we've seen similar versions, but there were many parts of this book that I really enjoyed. And yeah, for the first half it reads kind of like the Twitter handle (and some real people

this is a very blunt and explicit and mad rant about this book, so proceed with caution please.
this book physically hurt me. i felt my braincells die
one after other. oh my fucking god. im outrageously mad at this. who let this man publish this book???? WHY AND WHO HAD THE COURAGE AND STUPIDITY TO TELL THIS MAN THIS SHIT ASS PIECE OF TRASH WAS GOOD? and im saying this as a fan of his work. but so far only for his musical works. oh my fucking god. i cant even begin to imagine how he felt this was good and worthy to publish? like. this shit ass piece felt like a diary. im saying this because i write a diary and i write EXACTLY as it was written. only difference is that i cannot allow a piece of a seven-year-old's writing to run under my name. i'd be sooo ashamed? and this poor guy doesn't even see this as bad? he thought it was good to publish? AND HAVE YOU READ THE ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS????? THE AUDICITY.
like. what was even that writing. im so sorry my guy, but this is not literature. this was some random dude's random thoughts that he thought they sounded good and wrote down and was like... yeah okay its going out in the wild, let other people suffer from my stupidity too.
im so mad about my wasted time and money.
best example to not judge the book by its cover and author. because i have to admit, i only bought because of the cover and only looked up the author once I actually read the back of it. it was so promising tho. im so sad.
now for the actual plot. i dont know, my brain was hurting so bad reading this?
so logic was writing about a guy who was writing about a guy who was working in a supermarket and his reality was the same as the main guy's so we can merge the two people.... right? i cannot comprehend.
but THE WRITING. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST.
THE. WRITING. he was using SO big words and sounded SO cool it made no sense at all.
he touched so much topic but didnt elaborate on either of them, had so archetypal characters who could've turned out soooo much better AND WHAT WAS THE THOUGHT PROCESS. WE COULD SEE NOT A DAMN THING BEHING THE GUY'S THOUGHTS. yeah i know the whole book was about the guy's mind but im talking about ACTUAL THOUGHT PROCESS. WE DID NOT SEE THAT. we saw thoughts written flat out on the papers one after another. it was a fucking diary of the fucking author's.
he watched a cool movie, probs never read any classic book, originated the whole book on his life, made SO much reference on his life, literally that guy was himself just a bit crazier. like. dude. when he wrote in the acknowledgements that the first idea hit him during one of his lowest points in life i was like. no. not this. i mean, mad respect for him getting out of that hole and for this idea, book that helped him get out of it, but that's as far as it goes.
it should have not been published.
i dont even know what was the point of this.
what's the message, good sir?
because, i can tell you that, not every two people can relate to a schizophrenic 's life and struggles and self-harm and attempted murders and robbery and so on? even who suffers from schizophrenia, i doubt goes through the same struggles. apart from this what was really it?
uhm.... moving out? ripping your mind in half?
finding a dope ass girlfriend in the town's ONLY supermarket just after you were hired there? AND YOU'VE NEVER SEEN THAT CHIC BEFORE IN TOWN? like come on. yeah and the odds for her to fall for your schizophrenic ass and sticking around? COME ON NOW. being an only child and raised by only a mother but still having as much money to be able to plan a trip to new york? babes. no. and i knooooow it's a book. it can be as far-fetched as you want, but it was esp mark as realistic? yeah no shit. realistic my fat ass who was stupid enough to stick around till the end.
and i was especially mad about the conversations with the doctor. WHERE OR WHEN DID YOU COPY PASTE THOSE LAME ASS CLICHE CONVERSATIONS?????? MY LITTLE SISTER CAN BETTER USE WORDS THAN YOU. IT WAS SO CLICHE AND WAS SO OBVIOUS THAT IT WAS WRITTEN BY A GUY WHO HAD NOOOOO IDEA HOW THIS PATIENT-DOCTOR DYNAMIC WORKS AND HOW THEY TALK???? SIR, THIS IS JUST NOT HOW THIS IS GOES. IT JUST NOT IT OKAY. THOSE WERE SOME CLICHE CATCHY PHRASES HE PROBS HEARD IN "ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME" AND WAS LIKE OKAY THIS IS ACTUALLY FIRE I BET THIS IS THE BLUEPRINT LETS USE THIS. NO SIR. NO MORE GREY'S ANATOMY OR DOCTOR HOUSE FOR YOU OKAY?
oh yeah and i could feel sooo much that he just googled the symptoms of schizophrenia and run with it during the whole book. fuck no.
and OH MY GOD THE CRINGE????? jesus christ. I SKIPPED PAGES BECAUSE I JUST COULDN'T BRING MYSELF TO READ THOSE PARTS????? fucking hell.
and all the self-indulgent parts? as in the whole book?
esp talking about mia. it was such a projected and imagined perfect girlfriend who's just cute and amazing and will grow old with you no matter what. and that doesn't oesnt even matter that you tried multiple times to murder her, noooo not at all. because she's understanding and considerate. snatch my balls please.
and i was so mad about the literature part. in the library. my guy used so many reference it made him look stupid. (and why bring fenty beauty and kylie cosmetics into this? it literally made him look more stupid.) star wars and jurassic park???? who the fuck. let this man. let out this. from his hands. those two references were just a hate crime towards society. I feel ashamed. im not claiming him as a reader and author who doesn't read as much (his words, not mine) writes as a 8th grader girl who just had her first boyfriend and had to write it all in her sweet diary. and he was proud of his reading "taste"? and accomplishments? this is just an average middle aged man's book recs who only remembers these book title's names cause it was adapted into a film. and thinks pulp fiction and the wolf of the wall street are easily the peaks of film industry. i HAVE TO GAG. i could not bring myself, i WOULD NOT BE THIS CONFIDENT TO PUBLISH A BOOK WITH THIS LITTLE BACKGROUND INFORMATION ABOUT A FUCKING FORM OF ART???? LITERATURE.?????? OKAY I GET IT, FOR A GUY WHO DIDNT EVEN GRADUATED THATS A BIG ACCOMPLISHMENT BEING A GRAMMY WINNER AND SO ON BUT THIS IS AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT GENRE OF ART. YOU CANNOT SUCCEED IN A FORM OF ART WITH SOOO LITTLE EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE ABOUT IT. LIKE COME ON. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN MUSIC INDUSTRY HONEY? IT TAKES TIME AND PATIENCE AND PRACTICE. OH MY FUCKING GOD. BUT KEEP PRACTICING IG. DONT GIVE UP? JUST DONT PUBLISH FOR A WHILE AND JUST CONSUME ART (ESP IN FORMS OF LITERATURE PLEASE).
yeah so my final thoughts to the author, logic, darling. please read it with some realistic and frank (hah) people who will tell you straight up if it's worth our world's dear lung's death or not. because this def did not worth it. im sorry but stick to music please.

A friend lent this to me and said that she wouldn't spoil it and that it's a read in one night kinda book. I did read it on one night and the twist was really obvious, so then it was just waiting to see how it was going to wrap up.

It was kind of dumb, but some of it was funny and I was mostly entertained. I also have a thing for grocery store scenes in movies so I liked the supermarket as a setting.

2 stars because I read it until the end, but yeah this just wasn’t very good

I saw this book on Amazon and was intrigued by the cover. It wasn't until I opened my book mail and flipped the book over that I saw a picture of Logic where the author's bio was. I'm not particularly a fan of Logic's music, so this is an unbiased review.

Bobby Hall's debut novel is about a young man named Flynn who is an aspiring author.
Trying to overcome writers block, heartbroken after a recent breakup, Flynn interviews for a job at the local supermarket. He's hired on the spot. There he meets Frank, the man who would give Flynn the breakthrough he needs to finish his novel.
However, something sinister stirs in Frank upon meeting Flynn. And the rest of the supermarket employees aren't quite what they seem on the surface.

I was hooked from the first page of this book.
I can't say with certainty that it's a unique concept because I did make some comparisons along the way. If I shared those it would give too much away. I highly recommend going into this one completely blind. I'd even urge you to ignore the back cover completely which is what I did (aside from reading the author bio).
About halfway through the book what I thought was quite simply bad writing was actually very clever writing that led to something I never saw coming.
The plot twist in this book knocked the wind out of me and gave me chills.

Bonus: the book ends right around Christmastime so it's a perfect book to read this time of year!

While it was a really fun first novel, some parts were a little too predictable. Logic's writing style for books needs to be developed, however this will make an awesome movie if it comes out.

Had potential but was not executed well.  Given this is Logic’s first book and he's mostly a rapper than he is an author it was pretty decent. Something about the writing style made it really hard to read and stay interested. It felt like I was reading an old essay I wrote in high school. Overall the idea was there and could’ve been great but in the end it lacked.
