I had attempted to read the OG years ago but I couldn’t get past the introductory chapter as I found it was very academic and technical. I’ve been meaning to explore anti-patriarchal and liberatory readings of the Quran, and the plainspoken language in this primer has given me a boost in confidence now that I have the main ideas down. I’m very appreciative of the effort to make her work more accessible to a layperson such as myself. I enjoyed the sassiness in its tone at times and felt motivated to work through some of the challenging parts of the book. Reading this primer was a non-intimidating experience nonetheless, and I may be encouraged to pick up the full work with the new chapters, inshallah. Gorgeous cover design and big legible font which has made a comfortable reading experience, btw!
