Something about this book felt innately feminine- it’s just hard to pinpoint what exactly. It was lighthearted and worked wonders to get me out of a reading slump. This wasn’t a GREAT book but it was thoroughly enjoyable the entire time.

The POV is constantly jumping around from current evens at the book club to the distant past of the members for unrelated and occasionally traumatic events, which is bad enough but then there's a graphic sexual assault of a minor and it continues down hill from there. Icing on top is the use of very outdated ableist language, even for 2005.

I have read all Jane Austen's books more than once, so I was excited to read what I thought would be a light hearted romance about people that made a book club to read and discuss books from one of my favourite writers. I enjoyed nothing about this book.

I don't think this is a book for people that have read Jane Austen's books and are feeling nostalgic for more. I also don't think this is a book for someone that wants a light hearted read and there should probably be a trigger warning for people sensitive to certain topics like sexual assault.

This was so mediocre and forgettable. The characters were boring, and I didn’t care about anything that happened. I did like their discussions of Jane Austen, but everything else was so lackluster.
