that was A book. to be entirely honest, I haven’t read many books this year that I absolutely loved and I’m really glad I took a chance on this book because I loved it.

Why does it have to be ‘we’? Why not just me?”
“Because ‘just me’ isn’t who we are,” Iseult hollered back. “I’ll always follow you, Safi, and you’ll always follow me. Threadsisters to the end.”

THIS IS FOUND FAMILY ROYALTY!!!! I totally believe i am looking at a new favorite fantasy series and i needed it!

Reread! And I have to say I love it more the second time round. Even more after reading Sightwitch! Many things make so much more sense.

----------------

Quick Review.

3.7 stars actually. Yeah I know, decimals again. But I can't help it. I liked this book yet had so many things nagging at me while I read it, I just couldn't give it a straight 4 stars. Just like I don't think it should be only 3 stars. (At the same time, I suppose I just wanted some action in the book I read, and this was certainly action filled).

Buddy read with Marguerite.

Pros

- Action. Hell yes. There's plenty of action packed into this story. It's always moving, never slowing.

- Iseult and Aeduan are both deep, outstanding characters battling with their own problems.

- I think the world is built well, in the sense that it throws you into it, shoves all these foreign terms and jargons in your face and makes you need to adjust. (But this also is a con.)

- Conflict! (Though, I think this mainly refers to Merick, Iseult and Aeduan). Specially personal conflicts between choices that each characters make. And then realising how best to solve them.

- I do really love how most of the characters are related to another character in one or another.

- Iseult and Aeduan hardly interact, but forgive me, I thought they had WAYYYY more chemistry than Safi and Merick (this might just be me fangirling for the smaller guys, and also the fact that I know that Safi and Merick will probably end up together - in saying that though, there's a chance they mightn't since the ending didn't really clarify or suggest anything in particular.)

- In a way, I think it's refreshing that both Safi and Iseult have non-offensive abilities. They fight with their hands, and not their magic. Which is certainly different, but I'm not sure if I like the idea overall??

Cons

- Sometimes I think the events of the plot are too convenient (really...for things to get messed up for both Safi and Iseult at the same time?)

- The world is not explained in detailed. In way the meaning of the various jargons are contextualised, but sometimes, you're kind of left wondering...what?

- Also, I do think the lack of description of the various kinds of witches irritates me a little. I mean we heard about Truthwitches, Threadwitches, etc. Truthwitches are apparently really rare....

- WHAT IS WITH ALL THE 'TRUTHWITCH' IS PRECIOUS CRAP?! I got it the first time Safi mentioned that she was a Truthwitch and that Truthwitches are really rare and worth like a Dragon's hoard of gold but....seriously?!?! Throughout the whole book, I tried to figure out just how important a Truthwitch was, and guess what....I came up with NADA. ZILCH. NOTHING. Not even at the end was it explained in detail why her powers as a Truthwitch are so important - sure, in some logical sense, duh, who wouldn't want someone who could tell the difference between a truth and a lie, it'd be a great way to tease out all the spies, but um.....even SAFI herself said that her ability wasn't always on the spot. SO. WHAT THE HECK IS SO IMPORTANT ABOUT THE TRUTHWITCH that makes everyone want to hump her to bits??? (And makes me wonder why the heck she's the titular character.)

- For someone who is the titular character, Safi really doesn't seem to have much of a story in it. I mean, Iseult's choices, and Aeduan's, and Merick's sacrifices seem to be a whole lot more outstanding than Safi's.....

- Merick -.- is it just me? Nah. It's got to be you. You're both a nice guy and big giant ass throughout this book. You're also kind of annoying too. Yet, I don't hate you. I just think I wouldn't want to be the character to like you.

- Isn't it a bit convenient that so many characters are linked in the way they are - such a small world (but, I put this here for others, because for me, this was also listed as a pro haha).

Overall
I'd totally read the sequel, just to satisfy that growling cat in me. And hope that I get some satisfactory answers. I'd also read the sequels just to see if Iseult and Aeduan actually do become a pairing.

My local library did a blind date with a book thingy and i picked this book because it sounded cool and then I unwrapped it and saw it was this book… the book I’ve been avoiding since it got popular on booktube years ago. I thought I might as well read it.. so I did.
Excellent writing and good characters but it just wasn’t for me sadly

I loved this book. I hate that it's over and I have to wait a whole year for the next one! I loved the relationship between Safiya and Iseult. This story has kept me gripped from the first page.

That was great! Great start to a series. Iseult is my all time fav. Then Aeduan & Merrik. Ok fine, Safiya was good too, getting on ones' nerves as she was.

Some Quotes:
Spoiler

Safi hated gulls; they always shit on her head.

P12

Gods below, everything was falling apart, and it was all Safi’s fault. Safi had fallen for Chiseled Cheater’s charms. Then Safi had suggested the holdup. It was always this way: Safi would initiate something over her head, and someone else would clean up the mess. That someone had been Iseult for six years now . . . but how many messes would Safi have to make before Iseult had had enough? One of these days, Iseult would give up on her like everyone else had. Safi just prayed—desperately, violently prayed—that it wasn’t today.

P67

The man quickly ladled out the chocolate and poured it over a bowl filled with fresh strawberries.
Safi’s eyes bugged, yet as she grabbed for the bowl, Leopold deftly snatched it away, smiling. “Allow me to serve you, Safiya. We have spent too many years apart.”
“And I have spent too many hours between meals.” A glare. “Give it to me now, Polly, or I shall castrate you with a fork.”

P107

“I see,” she drawled, “that you have learned how to work a button. Congratulations on this no doubt life-altering feat.”
He laughed—a surprised sound—and bowed his head. “And I see you have cleaned the bird crap off your shoulder.”

P110

Uncle Eron had hidden things and bent the truth, but he hadn’t outright lied. It was midnight; Safi was leaving.

P134

A satisfied smirk pulled at his lips. It was a blanket made of salamander fiber, and if the girl had only remained beneath the blanket, Aeduan might never have caught her scent again. Her mistake.

P159

“But it’s not as powerful as people think—and lately, I’m learning that it’s not as powerful as I think. I’m easily confused by strong faith. If people believe what they say, then my magic can’t tell the difference. I know when someone outright lies, but when people think they speak the truth, my witchery accepts it.”
