I still love this cast of characters and world, (still so weird to me that the best school story series I've found still currently running, with the most heart, is the one about a world run by Evil Overlords), but this book suffers a little bit from middle book syndrome. It's mostly about dealing with the outfall from the previous book (which to be fair was a lot), rather than unveiling new revelations.

But we still have excellent characters, bullies get their comeuppance, toddler trees learn how to play tag, dragon shuttles are taken up north, our people are menaced by an giant snow hare, evil pasts are revealed, Runt can't keep a secret, and friendships are strong. I still love this series.
