I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Ani can be annoying at times, but I think that's the point. It definitely hits some hard topics, and I can see how some might feel it is dismissive of the topics, but also people handle things differently. I could see the actions or these books play out in real life.
I didn't have high expectations of the book from looking at the reviews, but did find myself really pulled into the story about two thirds of the way through. The end was a let down, however, as I expected a much darker and twisted ending. Writing was pointed and descriptive, so kudos for that.
I would recommend to people who enjoy unlikable female protagonists who don't mind a so-so plot.

After reading about three chapters of this novel, I immediately left my book club, that was because they made me read. This book is the required novel for the month of January. It was absolutely awful.

Seems I liked this more than most readers, I would even give it a 4.5 stars. Everything led me to believe it was a story about sexual assault, and while that was def in there it wasn't the major incident that was alluded to for most of the novel -- and I was totally caught off guard by the bait and switch. (Made me think of the film <u>Hereditary</u> -- at the start you think it's a film about Toni Collete's character unpacking her feelings around her mother's death and that kind of grief. And then..!) I will say that the ending was kind of a mess, like Luke and the photo and all that, it just was not as strong as the preceding 90% of the book.

The ending wasn’t satisfying enough, but I liked the narrator. The nastiness was fun probably because I wasn’t so emotionally connected to the story. I was hoping to get more out of this than the movie, but I didn’t really get anything which was a little disappointing. 3.5/5
