The twists surprised me, but Ani was a very unreliable and unlikeable narrator. Generally, a biased narrator is fun to read but she was a jerk. Even before the trauma.
I didn't mind the frequent (without warning) shifts between past and present but I know a lot of people couldn't do that.
Maybe I'm an idiot, but I found the ending confusing. I was using a lot of context clues while reading which seems a little bizarre for such a long book that I don't have to read for school.

I really enjoyed the character development in this book (not necessarily the characters' personalities - truthfully, I only really like two of the characters in this entire book), but this book provides a wonderfully written account of a young woman who deals with a past horrific experience by attempting to reinvent herself and control every aspect of her life. This novel provides an interesting look into the mind of someone struggling with post-traumatic stress and her battle to come to terms with her past.
When I put this bon my tbr it seems the literature world was in the girl in the title phase. Anyhoo it's taken me 2 months to read this which is a sign of commitment to the book. I found it hard going because of the subject matter. I should at this point give a Trigger warning for this book it deals with Sexual Assault, School Shooting and a host of other possible difficulties .
I did enjoy it all that being said i did go in with an open mind as didn't know what I was reading and having just finished am left feeling empty but free. I would recommend this but if you're sensitive to difficult subject matter do skip it as it definitely won't be for you

I grabbed this book after seeing the trailer for the Netflix film adaption. It has potential but didn’t do it for me. Some of the content was hard for me to read but more than that, I was just bored reading it. I kept waiting for it get better or have a twist but it just fell flat.
