Any time spent with Tom Hanks is delightful. As a novel, this reads a bit mechanically, but he dives into the minute works of story writing and film making. It's clear throughout that he deeply loves what he does and that's fabulous to enjoy. I desperately want to know who the actors and directors are along his career or that he's heard of in the industry that inspired the anecdotes included in this book.
Tom is a fantastic actor, not necessarily a good author. This book was a struggle, really.
I listened to the audiobook, and the narration gets 5/5 stars. I mean, Tom Hanks himself reads most of it.
I liked the characters and their stories, but I had a hard time truly caring, partly because of the length and organization of the novel.

Really tried to get into it but it was just soooo waffling. Read enough of it to count as a read for this year though, that's how hard I tried to like it

I enjoyed this book and the insights into how movies are made. That said I agreed with a review in the NYT that said some of the excesses in the book would have been acceptable in a satire, but this book earnestly thinks we are all THAT interested in knowing THAT much about Hollywood. Still, it was a fun read by a known-to-be-likeable author. If there were half stars I'd go 3.5 :)
