Beautiful and poetic point of view on relationships, love, and what it means to be so hidden from others and even yourself.

Ah short story collections… not my cup of tea, but I just can’t help myself from continuing to try them out. I’m sure one day I’ll find one I love.

Favorites here were:
- The Day Uranus Entered Scorpio
- Transformations
- Pear, Grape, Apple
- Music Box

I don't think I get it.

Grande livro.

“Take me anywhere you’d like! I’ve learned from the bougainvilleas to let myself be pruned! and to always return whole.’

These felt less like short stories and more like extracts from a larger great novel, full of unusual imagery and beautiful passages. lots of smoking, substances, sex and stream of consciousness. Beautifully crafted, beautifully queer stories of people on the periphery, on the edge and always searching for moments of recognition and connection. I also actually listened to lots of the music mentioned in the book while reading and that was really atmospheric - really set the mood and tone and helped situate them in 80s Brazil, with that cinematic grand quality which feels so of the time and place.

my favourite stories were transformations, the day jupiter met saturn, those two, still life and fat tuesday.

I've never read an archipelago book before and often found them slightly intimidating, but this was a great place to start! will read more of this press and more by Abreu!

Releitura

It’s so hard to rate this book because it was so important to me when I was a teen - but I can definitely tell that there is a difference between reading it at 15 vs at 30. Overall, the stories are more vibes (especially angst) than plot. I still found some of them to be extremely touching and “Aqueles Dois” made me cry so I guess it’s fair so say that maybe there is something in this book for everyone whenever they are
