A hilarious story of the interconnected lives of several people beginning in Jamaica during an earthquake and ending up in London throughout the 1970s.
It would not be everyones cup of tea but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

1. British humor jumped out and I ate it
4. Ho detestato i personaggi MA li ho amati o ho amato i personaggi perché li ho detestati?

I really thoroughly enjoyed this book. It reminded me of the story structure of "Cloud Cuckoo Land" in the way that is alternated between a large cast of extremely diverse, extremely interesting characters in different phases of life. I like that it went downward in generation but stuck with the same family, and you could always see the previous cast of characters in future chapters/sections. The overarching theme was change, particularly cultural and social change. The youth of the older characters are routinely made either more English or dive deeper into their family culture. They either stray far away from their roots or try to remain as close as possible to where they came from. Their change in mind, heart and spirit is palpable as a reader, and watching young people get moulded by their surroundings was realistic as a once impressionable teen. I really enjoyed the character dynamics, particularly between Samad's twin boys and between the parents of the child cast. Overall, this novel was a combined lighthearted and tough story with simple yet complex characters going about life in the changing decades and millennium. Really fun read.

More like 3.5… amazing characters, but windy/jumpy plot and it was all sometimes too overdone for me. Can’t believe she was 21 when she wrote this. On Beauty up next
