This was a pretty basic creature feature slasher and it was fine. I found myself dozing off often becuse it got pretty repetitive and I really did not give a shit about these characters and their stupid drama.

I did like a little addition of bonus scenes at the beginning of certain chapters where random new characters were getting killed by these creatures, it was a fun and original festure, even though it didn't really serve any purpose.

The entire book actually had no purpose, which is fine, not every book has to, but nothing really gripped me and I think I'd enjoy this much more if it were a movie.

spooky cryptids hunting emotionally damaged friends in a snowy landscape? sounds like a perfect winter horror read . short , fast paced , tense , and frigid .

Ania Ahlborn has beautiful, vivid writing and knows how to turn your stomach in the gore moments. It's a fun creature feature that is very reminiscent of Until Dawn (although I realize the book predates the release of the game), so if you want something a little mindless with a high death toll and scary monsters, this is the book.

I think the characters were very unlikable and the way April's story and writing were handled was disappointing. The ending wasn't particularly satisfying and had me feeling frustrated with the decisions of the cast. The emotional weight of some of the big moments failed to land because I just didn't really care about these characters.

Also, you can tell the author really likes the phrase "set his teeth on edge".

I was reccomended this book through TikTok user @baker.reads as a good intro for this author's works. This was my first time reading anything from author Ania Ahlborn and it did not disappoint.
Without spoiling anything, this has so many Until Dawn vibes and I was hooked. Reading it before bed was a mistake, because I was so enraptured and horrified I read until 4 am. Not my favorite writing style, but it was a compelling story.

Mostly untagged spoilers ahead, sorry!! Please read at your own discretion.

I’m giving this 2 stars instead of 1 because I like the writing style, it’s very smooth and easy to read while still being flowy and interesting. This author has been recommended to me  SO many times and I will probably give her another chance because I do enjoy the way she writes, this book just wasn’t it for me.

I was invested in the beginning. The characters are good, mostly; they’re pretty one-note and there’s a bit of a heavy romance subplot but they were still likable, even the side characters who serve no purpose
(RIP Don and Jenny
. It lost me about 60% through when it became obvious that the plot was basically any isolation horror movie that’s ever existed, and then it felt like a waste of time so I just skimmed through the rest of it. Honestly it reminded me a lot of the video game “Until Dawn” which I also didn’t like, but I did like these characters more.

There is a dog,
she does die.

I LOVE monster stories and creature features but this just did not do it for me. The creatures reminded me too much of the Spooky Island monsters from the Scooby Doo movie, I couldn’t take them seriously.

Honestly, just read the summary and move on LOL that’s it, that’s the whole book. If you’ve never watched a movie in your life you’ll probably enjoy it though!!

This one did not work for me. The characters were flat and annoying. Sawyer and Jane 😴😴😴 Ryan instalove for a woman he met a day and a half ago 😴😴😴

April being pregnant literally just to kill her off while Sawyer cries about how much he would've liked being a dad 😴😴😴
When April and Sawyer are fighting he tells her they had no more diet soda but when Sawyer is dying in the tent Jane gives him diet coke so what's the truth, Sawyer? 🧐

This started out really strong, but steadily declined the longer the story went on. I still enjoyed it, but not as much as I had hoped I would. Pretty much everything was great except the main characters. I just found them to be super unlikable + couldn't bring myself to care at all about their personal drama, which unfortunately took up a huge portion of the story.
