LOVED THIS BOOK - very appropriate for a 2020 listen and great twists and turns along the way. This is the first Temperance Brennan book I've read and I'm all in - looking forward to the other 18! I didn't feel like I needed to read the other 18 books first and have heard that you don't need to read them in order.

Don't get my rating wrong - it's a good mystery, and a good read. Stacking it up against other Temperance Brennan novels, I found A Conspiracy of Bones didn't capture my attention quite as well, and took me longer to get through.
To be fair, I listened to the audiobook, which may account for some of my feelings - but it was read well by a reader I appreciate in the role of Tempe, and I've greatly enjoyed other audiobooks in the series.
Fan of these books already? Give it a go, why are you bothering reading reviews? It's good.
First Kathy Reichs book? May I suggest you try some of her earlier works to start you off. I recommend Bare Bones as a personal favourite.

What the crap was that! First off, there's a supposed novella, "First Bones" that has to be read before this. Because otherwise things don't make a whole lot of sense. I only found this out AFTER I'd finished the whole book! WTF! Worst book in the series so far. Not only is the plot just bad and all over the place but Reichs's description of a woman I'd absolutely disgusting and she should know better. Just overall disappointed and disgusted about this book.

3½ listened to this audiobook. I was hoping it would give me the motivation to run more if I could only listen to it when I was running. I didn't run anymore than I did before. However, I didn't try as hard to talk myself out of it, so I'll take that as a win.

It's been years since I read this character. She seems to be having a rough go, said the author.
