Men ain’t shit! When I started the book I could not fathom how this book was going to try and spin the story of “mother leaves daughter” in a way where I forgave the mom. But omg, I was heartbroken.

A book where the main characters love to read is a little too on the nose for me. It was pretty cliche with its descriptions of “books transporting you” and sh*t, but the story still put a smile on my face and the dual POV was very interesting to read. The book kinda read like a fan fiction lol, but I can’t deny that it was cute.

A librarian from Seattle inherits a bookstore and a flat in a nice London neighborhood. Sounds exactly like the kind of daydream I’d like to get lost in. Only, it wasn’t. Some people get annoyed by how men write women characters. I get annoyed by how Americans who have only visited England write English characters. The English say aubergine, not eggplant! And yeah, it’s a romance with a mother in the 70s who had fewer rights than today but I want to read about women - even back then - who fought for what was right. So maybe time for me to lay off the romances by white writers for a while.

I loved how the book was set in London (One of my top 5 places to travel to) and that the main character loved all things book. It took me back in time at various points in the book. And had me imagining London.
