The main ideas presented here are interesting, and the author does explain them in a clear and direct way that's easy to understand. What's also clear, though, is that the author has led a very privileged life, in that (to paraphrase that excellent quote) he didn't just learn to make good choices, he had good options to choose between.

Also, the vast majority of the people mentioned/quoted in this book are men. Most examples are from a business/job/career point of view, which means you're left to reflect on your own if that part of life isn't possible for/available to you. It's a shame, because with relatively few changes the book could have been more broadly inclusive of other ways of life, without losing the essence of essentialism.

The author does seem aware that his main audience will probably be people similar to him, so maybe he has simply chosen to practice what he preaches and focus on his essential target group. In my opinion, though, the book is poorer for it.
