Book one was superior, this book introduces new characters, a multi POV and loses the world building  which dulls the shine of a promising premise.

The first book was better, IMO. This one dragged in quite a few places. I think the second book could have been condensed to the important parts and combined with book 1 and it would have been a much better standalone story than a duology.
Also I’m realizing that a pet peeve of mine is when characters all of a sudden just “understand” the solution to the book’s problem out of the blue without any real assistance. Like hello I’ve been slogging along here with you for 800 pages, where did you all of a sudden pull this epiphany from?
But I digress. It’s a fine book. Not wonderful but pretty good.
I’m not sure if any of that was a spoiler but I said it was just in case.
