Ok so I didn’t like this book but it wasn’t bad it just wasn’t my cup of tea. I like her writing but I’m gonna abstain from giving this a number review.

JFC what a mindfuck fuckfest.

First of all—the name Dascha is like a wet dream. And both of them? Physically? Already a wet dream on their own. Together? Tectonic plates will move.

So, with that out of the way… here are my ramble-thoughts.

This is the kind of book you either hate or love, and I’m happy to say I loved it. Far from perfect—not even close. Full of flaws, plot holes, morally black people, cheesy if you can imagine, soooo much smut. Dirty, filthy smut. Dubious characters you dislike but somehow end up rooting for, wanting nothing more than to see them happy.

There’s a huge plot behind it too, with a bunch of details and important side characters. I’m sooo curious about all of them. It’s completely unhealthy, unhinged, unrealistic, and OTT. L.o.v.e.d. I.t.!

They are dynamite together—before and after—no questions asked. Nyla writes smut so hot

I never regretted to read all of the books on my Read list but this one is the frist book I regretted for reading.
Mindfuck.....That twist made me pissed off.
And the worst part was I still hoped that Warden brainwashed to Kemper ....
Waste my times to piss off
Because the author didn't want the MMC as a rapist and changed the story line.
The whole 70% was such a waste

3 - was ok but I didn't particularly like it

This book follows Dascha Reznikov, prolific bank robber who finds himself in an off-the-grid penitentiary. Alabaster Pen is where the government puts people to be forgotten about. It's a very rough place, where the inmates are not the best of men, but the prison guards are even worse.

They control everything, and kowtowing to them is paramount, even if it means you end up doing things you absolutely don't want to do.

Dash catches the attention of one such guard, and is subject to whatever it is that that guard wants from him, even when he doesn't want to give it. Especially when he doesn't want to give it. But Dash has got to survive, even if it means struggling where he is and with who he is.

I'll be honest, I don't know quite why I do this to myself. I've been interested in reading dubcon/non-con recently and had this book recommended as a consequence. I really liked For The Fans by this author, so I was keen to read this book.

I say I've been keen on reading dubcon/non-con, and that's true. What's also true is that this trope is found a lot in dark romance, and baby, this book is dark. My problem is that I don't particularly like dark romance.

So this book is the latest in a string of dark romance with dubcon/non-con in it and I'm finally seeing the writing on the all 🤦‍♂️

All this being said, I don't think I liked this book that much. Not because it was written poorly or was a bad story. It's just not quite the type of story I prefer. It's very dark, with mature themes. The romance is dubious at best, and all of the characters are at Alabaster Penitentiary for a reason.

I would recommend this book for people who like dubcon/non-con, dark romance, prison romance, morally ambiguous characters, and overall good writing.

I listened to this audiobook on Audible. The narration is fantastic! This is the type of book that the audio experience is better than reading the book.

I’m a huge fan of Nyla K. I don’t think there will ever be a better MM book than For the Fans. This book, Distorted, is now my 2nd favorite MM book, which is saying a lot because I’ve read a ton of MM books.

With that said, this isn’t for everyone. Essentially, this book is about a prisoner and a guard. (And how we think life is like in prison.)

Some of the main Trigger Warnings to be aware of before deciding to read this are mentioning of childhood abuse, and severe mental illness, as these play a large part in one of the MMC. The other big TW is Non-consent/dubious. One MMC is forced/sometimes coerced into sexual acts and after the acts starts the MMC starts to enjoy it. I think to any reader, these acts start off as rape so that could be a big TW for some.

There are NO slow moments in the book like almost every book out there. There is always a gripping story being told throughout the entire book. I typically increase the listening speed during slow parts in audiobooks or start to skim pages when reading but this book had zero boring parts.

This book is taboo and if you’re okay with the TW then you’ll love this book like I did. I will listen to this book again at some point.

I'm just gonna say this. The book was gonna get a 4/5. But then something happened, and it became a 5/5. You'll know it when you read it.
