1. way to explicit sexual content for my liking
2. why is nobody calling the Thorns out for treating the Avramovs like they're bad people and being mean to them??
3. This is clearly a case of "you just have to talk instead of assume and there would be much less problems"

This book was super fun! Issa as a narrator was a delight to read. I loved the world of Thistle Grove in book 1, and I loved how Harper expanded it in this book - both by showing us more about how the Avramovs and the Thorns live, and by bringing us to a different season (springtime! Beltane!).
I enjoyed the Issa and Rowan romance and how we got to see them choose to move past their differences and learn to work together. I was also super drawn into the mystery aspect of the plot - it definitely kept me guessing (and worried!) til the end. My only gripe was with the language which at times felt overly trendy - I didn’t notice that in book one but maybe it bothered me more here? I dunno. It reads like it’s going to sound outdated in a few years, but I guess there’s nothing wrong with that style. Overall, a super enjoyable read that definitely continues the trend of book one - if you liked that one, you’ll like this one!

Teaming together to find the cause of a magical blight, Rowan and Isadora had to get past their rocky rivalry to work together as a team and find the answers. I thought I knew the way this mystery was going to play out, but boy was I wrong. I didn't see the answer until the characters did.
A very cute romance, and I thought the pacing was spot on.

Moderate: Injury/Injury detail and Medical content
Minor: Alcohol
One of the main characters does struggle with panic attacks brought on by anxiety. In particular an anxiety related to meeting familial expectations. The mysterious curse is violent leading to injuries and some time in the hospital for side characters. There are also brief mentions of alcohol use and some very explicit sexual content.just_one_more_paige's review against another edition

While the first book has a really interesting plot along with great characters, this book had a much less interesting plot and it took the enemies-to-lovers trope to a level that I really don't enjoy. The angst was the primary focus and the banter between Isa and Rowan felt super cringy rather than funny or sexy or really anything worthwhile. I found myself just wanting things to move along so I could stop hating the two of them so much for holding grudges for almost ten years.
The last quarter of the book provided the intrigue I needed and was really the only thing that redeemed it for me. It finally brought the mystery to the foreground and while things wrapped up a little quicker than I hoped or anticipated, I did enjoy the ending. However, I never did find it in myself to really like either of the two main characters, which is a bummer.
I won't let this particular installation keep me from reading the upcoming book in the series. I think this was just filled with tropes I didn't enjoy, but I can see how it would be really appealing to anyone who lives for the bully-love kind of vibe. I look forward to reading Morty's story next!

I liked Paybacks a Witch, but I enjoyed this one even more. I liked the mystery plot, it kept me entertained and curious & a big part of why I liked this book more than the first. And the ongoing family feud between the Thorns & Arvamovs? I was here for it!
I loved Issa & Rowan! I really enjoyed the tropes included in this book when it came to main couple — enemies to lovers vibes & being forced to work together are two of my faves so I ate this up!
If you liked Paybacks a Witch or The Ex Hex I think you’d like this!
