The overall story of this book is really disjointed (and it's probably a bit too long). It's a neat read for Justified fans because it makes reference to so many characters as well as plotlines used in the show. But if you've never seen Justified itself, you probably won't get much out of it, so I would highly recommend that you just watch it instead.

The writing is snappy, and fun without being frivolous or campy. I wonder how much this book was influenced by the TV show, especially where numerous aspects of the plot were added into the TV show.

This novel surprised me. It's structured loosely around three independent crime stories. The first one moved so quickly, the plot was so straightforward, and the characters had quirks but not much depth. I wasn't sure I was interested in the next story. The stories are less independent than they first appear, and the recurring characters were less one-dimensional. I ended up enjoying the second half a lot.

Interesting to see how much of Justified the TV series was directly taken from Elmore Leonard, and how much got reshuffled along the way. Seems that Mags Bennett in the TV show was Purvis Bennett in the book.

Raylan Givens is a great character, and I liked spending time in this world again. I came to this book hoping for some new adventures for these characters, but these stories had already been mined in the TV show.
