Aside from the thickness of this book being intimidating, I think perhaps one of the reasons I’ve gotten so far behind in the series could be due to how stretched out the books are now. Series one was a lot of comedy and a lot of action, but series two is a lot slower. At fifty pages in, it doesn’t feel like anything has happened.
At some points, I wonder if too much is being done all at once. Plot lines and such. It starts to feel a bit tangled, at times.
After finishing the book, it’s still pretty tangled. A lot is happening. A lot was also resolved… but it felt a bit… messy?
I’m also a bit iffy about the final chapter given that it, at this point, seems to contradict something from Series 1, but hopefully that will be cleared up in the next book.

Well. Holy ****.
I need a drink (or several) and then I'll try to write a proper review.

Overall really good! A lot of storylines running at the same time which keeps you hooked constantly. Finally feel like the dynamic is back and that comedy is back in full swing! Only bad point is that I felt that some plot points came out of the blue

Ooft it took derek 2 books but he definitely got back into the groove of the skulduggery series in this book. The emotions, the plot twists, the cliffhangers just ugh, it was great

Ok I kinda get why people don't love Phase 2 now. I don't exactly remember the details from Phase 1 but I feel like with some of the plot that Landy has built up for this phase, there must have been some retcons. I mean I heard there were a lot but I feel like I don't even need to check to know that there were a bunch going on as I was reading the book. I'm still interested though so what does that say about meeee lol. I guess I'm just happy Landy is finally exploring one of the more interesting parts of the SP universe to me lol.

I want this review to remain spoiler free so I won't go into detail but not super happy with the direction Val's character is going even though a small part of me is intrigued. I just feel like we're going into territory where writing can get really sloppy and not interesting and have potential for development so I'm peeking through my fingers, interested in learning more but not expecting it to go well. Also the writing style and choices in the first half had me cringing but it sorted itself out sorta towards the end.

These are getting more action packed at they progress! Really enjoying how this world is unfolding, and I happily dive from the end of one book right into the next, needing to continue the story…. Amazing that after 12 books I am still as gripped as I was during the first.
