This was a wonderful piece of art that brought me to tears more than once in the span of half an hour. Beautifully illustrated with short and impactful vignettes. It weaves not a story but a moment in time filled with love comfort and friends. Absolutely perfect.

To be honest, if I hadn’t read this while I was feeling emotionally vulnerable, I wouldn’t have thought it was very good. It reminds me of another book I didn’t particularly like called “The Alchemist”. Lots of little proverbs and sayings. Obviously the art is fantastic and beautiful; I love the style and the way they’re just sort of shapes and figures some of the time and then full watercolor illustrations at other times. I understand that perhaps the point of the book is not to be coherent or linear, but I did go in expecting a plot and not little platitudes about forgiveness and tea and cake. I’m giving it its flowers in terms of my star rating because I feel like the rating system is fairly arbitrary and useless when it comes to a book that does what it sets out to do, but that you didn’t particularly like. I like to leave my own opinion in the review, not the rating. TLDR; a good book if you like meditative, nonlinear storylines and have a fondness for woodland creatures. Don’t go in expecting a plot.

Very sweet book that pulls on motifs from many childhood fables.

I love that for a book with pictures, it is also one of my favorite audiobooks. I think it is a little healing every time I listen to it.
