As someone fluent in ASL, I loved the sign language using gorillas but that’s pretty much it. I’ve read a few Crichton books and this one was the least satisfying in my opinion. You can tell how much research went in to this book but it just felt poorly executed. It started strong with believable science but ultimately led to a contrived and predictable climax. I feel that Crichton tried adding too much in (cannibals, volcanoes, crocodiles, etc) and should’ve focused more on believability. I guess every great author has to have one rough book.

Far superior than the film by miles. Really sheds some light on evolution and lost civilizations and human-ape communication and interactions. It's a good blockbuster read.

2.5. I was bored through most of it and found the massive amount of info dumping to be a major issue for me. This was such a disappointment for me and find this to be my least favorite of Crichton’s books that I’ve read so far.

To be concise, this book was fun

Great writer of this genre

I love the movie even though it’s bad. The book isn’t great and I just didn’t like it as much as I hoped. Having the bad gorillas attack each night was a bit tedious, could’ve changed up the plot a bit there instead of just repeating it with more deaths
