Good but not at the level of the author's best. I can think of 4 right off that I prefer to this one. Maybe a half dozen but it's still worth a read and if you somehow happen to have never read Crichton this could be a good place to start, knowing that as you enjoy it there are some really great ones to read after this.

I liked Amy. I don't like how long it takes for this book to actually get anywhere interesting. Like if Jurassic Park was mainly about the flight to Isla Nublar, and we learned next to nothing about the dinosaurs.

Reading up on the history of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is a good idea, whether you read Congo or not. Interesting place.
