I did not excepted that. But I really like this book. Normally I don’t like age gap, but here, it’s okay I guess. What else, oh yes. What I really loved about this story is how the author talks about grief and being alive after surviving a loved one.

It’s a beautiful story, once again Akwaeke Emezi wrote a good book.

The writing here is so lush - the level of description usually reserved for a love interest is deftly applied to most things: food, architecture, scenery, moments and memories. I simply could not put this book down and repeatedly had those ‘just one more chapter’ moments.

A story about grief and how life is not always clean. The different ways that grief bubbles up inside people, a beautiful story with beautiful writing.

What happens when you go on a trip with a boyfriend you are semi-serious about only to potentially fall in love with someone else? Feyi knows. This is a book that plays with grief and messy life directions.

This book was a rollercoaster from page 1 to the end. While sold as a romance, it doesn't quite hit the same beats as a typical romance. I enjoyed the messiness of the entire thing, although I don't know if even Feyi would defend her actions. I also don't know if I could have done this better.

Feyi's best friend was the star character throughout this.

This book was such a well-written, profound exploration of grief that really resonated with me. The book opens on lighter, more salacious notes, only giving you bits and pieces of the protagonist's hidden feelings. But the author does such an expert job showing you more and more of Feyi as the book continues, and it was so easy to get caught up in her feelings. I absolutely recommend this book, though I'd recommend you take care to ensure you're feeling up to the jumps and bumps your heart will go through.
