4.5 - this book was so sweet and so good and though it was a tad more yearning/longing than i personally prefer, the drama never felt unnecessary or out of place. the characters were likable and rational, and i just loved this book.

it was just a taddddd too long - it wasn’t a huge deal (obviously), but it was noticeable nevertheless

sometimes what they say is true and you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover because this book is far too good for how ugly the cover is

I appreciate that this book exists. Trans stories from the regency era are thin on the ground. Regretfully I found it about 200 pages too long. Its a very pleasant book, save a gruesome un-needed scene in a brothel, but for me, could have been over about 50 pages after he remembers who she is. The entire 2/3rds afterwards were unnecessary.

Viola and Justin story is heartfelt but this should've been a shorter especially when I didn't care anything about side plot.

Amazing story, both plot wise and romantically. The pacing in the middle of the book was strange but I think the ending made up for it!

Good but dear lord, this book is way too long. So much wasn't needed. Maybe if it was 2 books? Love the romance, but I don't know if it worth ot for how long this book is.

I really loved this couple, and I loved a large portion of this story, but man I just could not bring myself to care about Miranda’s story, which was a much larger part of this book than I think I would have preferred. I think I would have liked more of just Viola and Gracewood, even just doing simple things like maybe dating? Domestic stuff? I wanted more time with them and Miranda’s stuff kept getting in the way and it messed up the pacing massively by the midway point of the book.

I do still love it and I love that we had explicit sex and desire with a trans character in which her partner in no capacity questioned his desire and love for her. And a HEA for a trans character as well, in a historical setting. Loved it.
