Cool art style and very of its time - but also fairly confusing in terms of how quickly plot advances

This volume was interesting and the art was phenomenal, but I can't get over the weak characters and narrative. I get it, this was made during the sexual revolution. Noted. But nothing in this story made me want to continue. I had no desire to find out what happened next, and it seems the creators didn't either. They were just building sexual tension until the next moment when Barbarella could get naked. And even those moments were so inserted and unnatural. Long story short, this book is just erotica in a science fiction setting. There was some tongue in cheek, which helped make it more enjoyable, but its not exactly a book that makes you care about the actual story or characters. Everything is one dimensional. I do like how Barbarella has agency, but I can't fully appreciate that knowing this series was made by a bunch of men. In the end, that powerful woman character is just an object to portray their fantasies. It seemed like a horny bunch of men just wanted to make a sexy story. And in that, they were successful.

By far, one of the weirdest books I've read. You just have to go with the flow, errr the plot. Super interesting in comic book history and the history of women heroes.

This giant (16 by 12) book is a great way to read a 1960s Barbarella comic. The text and art are sexy and campy and strange but it feels joyful and fun all the way through. This is probably the oddest and best coffee table book a comic book fan could hope for but fair warning, the hard cover format makes reading this beast a bit of a challenge and you will almost certainly look like a little kid while doing it.
