Such a beautiful duology about monsters desperate to cling to their humanity and humans who can’t stop themselves from becoming monsters. The world building is so unique, think apocalypse, but with monsters instead of zombies. I know if I had read this during my dystopian era in middle school I would’ve been obsessed. August Flynn & Kate Harker are two characters I will be thinking about for a long time and that ending has me in shambles.

This book dragged a little for me but did a great job exploring what comes after. I would have liked to read more about the gang in Prosperity but I understand it wasn't their story.
SpoilerI had to read the ending a few times before I actually believed it. I know that it was unlikely that Kate survive the encounter with Alice, but still, she was a great character and I had imagined that somehow she would find her way back to Prosperity. I imagine Riley waiting, not knowing what happened.
The exploration of morality was a little light - I thought there was room for a bit more here.

The series was good enough for me to look out for more books by this author.

sigh could have been so much.
I felt absolutely nothing readinf aboit rhese characters, didnt connect with then at all and they fell so falt to me. At the middle mark kate dtarted to annoy the shit out of me so i had a hard time finishing it.
When she died i was like ?? ok?? no emotion at all
Compared to the rest of schwabs work this was just really flat and weak idk.

“Do you ever wonder why music brings a soul to surface? What makes beauty work as well as pain?”

Y August, ¿he dicho August?

“Everyone was made of sounds, and August had learned hers the first day they met.”

"It wasn't easy. The world was complicated. Life was hard. And so often, living hurt.
So make it worth the pain."

My feelings. My heart. August Flynn. Ilsa Flynn. Kate Harker. My bbs.

“Because it haunts you.” He tapped August’s chest, right over the heart. “Because you care.”
