Almost 5 stars, it was just a little too slow of a start. But I love these characters and this world; the writing (it was beautiful) makes it even better.

After some time of reflection on this one I’ve lowered it to 3 stars. It was, objectively, a very good book- it just wasn’t the book for me

Read this once a while back and am enjoying it as a spooky YA novel, but boy howdy, do I hate it that the word "Nazi" shows up like one time halfway through the book, the word Jewish maybe half a dozen.

If you're going to use WWII as a backdrop for your story and make A JEWISH BOY AND HIS DESCENDENTS a main part, seems weird not to, like, actually do that and just kind of skirt around it. Especially in a book that otherwise touches on generational trauma in such an interesting way.

Say the word NAZI or don't write about them.

It has taken me a long time to finally read this book, but I am so happy that I finally did! What a wonderful story! I can't wait to read the next two in the series.

I kind of expected more, to be honest. I wasn't creeped out at all, but that is just me. I'm used to so many weird shit, nothing actually weirds me out anymore. Still, I enjoyed it very much and I definitely plan to pick up the rest of the series.

 it's just a bit boring

The characters are not really interesting, the world seems dull

Props for using the photographs as a connection to the book i guess

I have to admit, I was tempted to read this because of the movie adaptation. I'm not a hipster in this situation.

I greatly enjoyed this book, and I will more than likely pick up the next installment. The perspective of Jacob is so relatable to a true young man. He had the grit of a young man on budding adulthood, yet still strapped down to being a child. I'm sure we all remember that feeling all too well.

The vintage photos were a nice touch, but in some instances I thought it took away from the author's ability to show instead of tell traits about the characters. For example, it felt slightly lazy; like maybe he didn't have to truly describe the characters since the pictures did that for him.

I did enjoy this book, nonetheless, but it felt like it could have been longer. So much of it was exposition, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I will continue on and recommend it to others.
