⁣She felt that, insignificant as it has appeared this morning, the position she held in society was dear ro her, and that she would not have the strength to change it for the degraded position of a woman who had forsaken husband and child and formed a union with her lover.

...would always be a guilty woman continually threatened with exposure, deceiving her husband for the sake of a shameful union with a man who was a stranger and independent of her...

I hated this book from the beginning. I could not get myself to read it for months, even though I have to read it for school and I should probably read it twice. But as I read page by page, slowly, I came to like it. I hated the character of Anna at the beginning, but I liked Kitty's character and I definitely wanted to wear all the dresses and dance the dances. Somewhere in the middle I really started to like Anna, but Kitty seemed all weird to me when she was in Germany. Also, I hated both Count Vronsky and Alexei most of the time, though I fell in love with Vronsky later on. Some characters, like Betsy and Stiva are really lovable as well and there are quite some fun parts (like the one where one guy got drunk, climbed on the roof and then fell asleep to funeral march) as well as fluffy (when Kostya and Kitty get together, at last). I must say I find Leo Tolstoy quite a great author, much opposite to my first thoughts (I did love the abridged version of War and Peace though).
