This book, about how small town Canada opened their doors to the world when American skies closed down on 9/11, is a mosiac of the great and beautiful, tragic and horrendous, parts of being human. It follows the stories of dozens of passengers marooned in Gander, Newfoundland and the volunteers who dropped everything to help them. It jumps rather rapidly from story to story, which makes it a bit hard to follow, but mostly it’s a great reflection on a part of 9/11 most of us never knew about, and of all the ways humans help each other.

This was a pleasantly surprising and heartwarming read!

It was nice to see what good came out of such a traumatic event, and I'm glad that the book kept its focus on the people in Gander, it really helped to connect to those people.

Something I took away from the book was how COMPLICATED everything was with border control and any process related to that, since there was no precedent for such a huge homeland security breach.

Anyway, very good read, would recommend for an uplifting read that promotes the power of thy neighbor!
