This was such a beautifully written, gripping story. I think this might be the one that convinced me I actually do enjoy character-driven books. I loved it even though it was on the slower side of pacing, which isn’t common for me. This is a standout book!
Graphic: Death and Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Gore and Gun violence

1.5 stars rounded up. Interesting premise but written very poorly - amateur, flat, predictable.

So boring. Had no idea what the story was trying to build up to after more than half the book

Didn’t love the dual timeline, felt redundant and unnecessary

I enjoyed this and am glad that I listened to a patron's recommendation to check this out! My hope for Emerson's next book is that the mystery might be more complex, and if the same characters are featured, the grandmother is given more depth.
